The chairman of Port Vale FC has been appointed an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours for services to sport.

Bill Bratt has headed the financially-troubled club since 2003, when he led a supporters' group that rescued it.

Business leaders, sports stars, artists and unsung heroes are among recipients of awards in the list.

Two Stafford school workers made MBEs are Shirley Bruce, ex-caretaker at Blessed William Howard, and David Clarke, a volunteer at Graham Balfour.
