Up to 225 jobs could be lost at the Wedgwood & Royal Doulton factory in Stoke-on-Trent, owners WWRD Holdings Ltd has announced. A spokesman said the firm was committed to remaining at its Barlaston factory but would have to reduce its production capacity because of the recession. The factory manufactures tableware and gift ware. WWRD Holdings took over when Waterford Wedgwood went into administration in January this year. Spokesman Pierre de Villemejane said the firm would do all it could to assist employees affected by the cuts. A 90-day consultation period began on Wednesday. More than 350 redundancies were announced when the firm went into administration. About 800 people are currently employed by the firm in north Staffordshire, mainly at Barlaston.
