A Cheshire train maintenance company has said it plans to cut 86 jobs due to a falling workload. Bombardier said staff at its works in Crewe had been informed on Friday and it would begin a 30-day consultation process with them on Monday. The firm said it had made the decision after failing to win some contracts it had bid for. It said demand had also fallen partly due to modern trains being more reliable and needing less maintenance. About 500 people are employed at the works.
