Some 237 workers learned they were being made redundant |
Administrators for Waterford Wedgwood have confirmed that 237 staff were told they were being made redundant this week. The ceramics firm announced about 350 job cuts last year before it went into administration last week. Deloittes announced 367 redundancies - the majority at its plant in Barlaston, Stoke-on-Trent - on Monday. But it has said this figure included 130 staff who were being made redundant but had not yet left the firm. They will not now be eligible for the redundancy terms they had been offered by the previous management. Waterford Wedgwood employed about 600 at Barlaston and about 1,900 in total in the UK. The cuts takes the number of redundancies at the firm to almost 600 since August. Administrators are in talks with US private equity firm KPS Capital with a view to buying the business.
