Police have promised to maintain low crime levels this year's V Festival in Staffordshire.

About 90,000 people are expected at Weston Park, near Wolverhampton, on 16 and 17 August to watch acts such as The Verve and Muse.

Crime dropped by 15% and violence by 20% in 2007, Staffordshire Police said.

Car number plates will be scanned to identify known troublemakers while there will also be CCTV coverage and a large uniformed police presence.

Ch Insp Vera Bloor, said: "V proudly remains one of the safest festivals in the country and has a national reputation for its low-crime, trouble-free environment.

"This is largely due to months of detailed planning with the promoters.

"Local residents can rest assured that we are doing all we can to minimise disruption and tackle anyone travelling to the area with plans to commit crime."
