Record profits announced by JCB
JCB has announced pre-tax profits of 149m for 2006, its best ever figures.

The Staffordshire-based digger maker also set new records for turnover, machine sales and global market share.

Figures released by the privately-owned firm, which has its headquarters in Rocester, showed turnover rose to 1.75bn - up from 1.42bn in 2005.

JCB's chief, John Patterson, said the company had become a "truly global concern" in the last three years, with new plants in India, China and Germany.

Commenting on the results, company chairman Sir Anthony Bamford said: "Last year was undoubtedly the most successful year in JCB's history.

"We not only benefited from growth in the global construction equipment market but more importantly we have grown faster than the market."

The company was founded in 1945 and now has manufacturing bases in the UK, US, Brazil, Germany, India and China.
