Residents oppose M6 widening plan
More than 200 people have signed postcards opposing plans to widen the M6 near their homes.

A group from Madeley on the border of Staffordshire and Cheshire encouraged members of the public to sign the cards at Greyhound Court on Saturday.

They are now being sent to the Department for Transport.

Government proposals have been put forward to widen the M6 north of Birmingham to Manchester by providing an extra lane.

The chairman of Madeley Parish Council, Billy Welsh, said: "The impact on the environment and on people's lives would be absolutely horrendous.

"We live in nice, open countryside and people's lives would be blighted."
