Talks resume in council dispute
Protest
The protest was held through the centre of Stafford
Union leaders said they were hopeful a compromise could be reached over plans to change pay scales for Staffordshire council workers.

Representatives from three unions met council bosses on Wednesday to discuss the plans which could see large reductions in pay for some workers.

About a quarter of council staff face pay cuts under the plans but 45% will receive more money, the council said.

Negotiations are now set to resume in an effort to broker a resolution.

Workers marched through Stafford last week in protest over the changes.

Following the meeting Claire Breeze, from Unison, said: "The authority have now given a commitment to return to negotiations with trade unions.

"So I am hopeful but not over confident as actions speak louder than words."
