Job loss nurses head down under
North Staffordshire Hospital
The redundancies will mean one-in-seven jobs will go at the hospital
More than 100 nurses from Staffordshire have applied for jobs at a hospital in Australia, health officials say.

The University Hospitals of North Staffordshire NHS Trust announced in March it is to cut 1,000 jobs to help combat a 15.5m debt.

The Cairns Base Hospital in Queensland advertised for staff in newspapers in Staffordshire earlier this year.

Australian managers are in the county this week to interview candidates and find more potential applicants.

Thousands of campaigners have marched through Stoke-on-Trent in protest at plans to cut jobs.

After the losses were announced, health union Unison said they were bound to have an effect on patient care and the Royal College of Nursing said morale in the profession was "plummeting".

The redundancies will mean one-in-seven jobs will go with three-quarters of them likely to be compulsory.
