Record numbers sign up for Army
Armed Forces Careers office
The recruits are joining after receiving their GCSE results
An armed forces career office is enlisting the highest number of recruits in one day since World War II.

Some 44 teenagers will pledge their allegiance to the British army at the Stoke-on-Trent office.

It is the highest number of recruits enlisting in one day in the West Midlands since 1945, the Army said.

Once enlisted the young recruits, who have recently completed GCSEs, will join the Army Foundation college to undertake their military training.

Major Jimmy Lamb, from Armed Forces Careers Office, said: "Increasingly, youngsters are realising that the Army offers a fantastic lifestyle, enabling them to travel to exotic countries and participate in over 50 sports.

"The training offered in the British army is second to none, soldiers are positively encouraged to acquire skills and qualifications recognised throughout civilian life."
