Hopes for rail line improvements
Senior rail figures are looking at ways to raise funding for millions of pounds of railway improvements.

Plans are being discussed which could see better stations and more trains on the line between Walsall and Stafford.

West Midlands transport promoter Centro hopes the improvements will persuade more people to travel by train.

A spokesman said journey times to Birmingham could eventually be an hour less than by road, and links improved for towns in Staffordshire.

The plans are being drawn up by Centro, the track owner Network Rail, service operator Central Trains and Cannock Chase District Council.

They hope to provide new and extended platforms, ticket offices at the busiest stations, safety improvements and passenger information displays at Bloxwich, Bloxwich North, Landywood, Cannock, Hednesford and Rugeley Town stations.
