Council's 1.5m council tax boost
An improvement in council tax collection rates in Stoke-on-Trent means the city council is 1.5m better off this year compared to last.

It says it has done better than it thought it would on getting its hands on taxpayers' money.

It is going to give the police 200,000 and the fire service 75,000.

Twelve months ago the city council wrote off 500,000 in unpaid council tax bills which stretched back over the past five years.
