New Year baby is born in a lift
A Stafford couple got an unexpected New Year gift when their baby daughter made her entrance into the world - in a hospital lift.

Michelle Rogers did not make it to the maternity ward at Staffordshire General Hospital - and gave birth to baby Paris in the lift, helped by hospital staff.

However, father Toby Boulton missed the occasion because he was in the lift next door.

Miss Rogers said she was not worried because she knew she was in safe hands.

Speaking to BBC Radio Stoke, she said: "I was frightened at home on my own, but when I got to the hospital, I knew I was fine.

She added: "They stopped the lift for me so the doors would not fully open. I wasn't bothered she was born in the lift - just embarrassed.

"My boyfriend was in the next lift and I wanted him there. He could hear me screaming."
