Hewitt to discuss ambulance plans
Managers at Staffordshire Ambulance Service are to meet the health secretary to discuss plans for a new West Midlands trust.

People will be consulted but it is thought a regional service will happen under government plans to cut the number of ambulance trusts in England.

On Monday chief executive Roger Thayne will tell Patricia Hewitt how well the service has performed in recent years.

The meeting has been organised by the Labour MP for Stafford, David Kidney.

On Friday Dr Anton Van Dellen, who jointly runs the ambulance service, said hundreds of lives will be put at risk under the merger plans.

It was also revealed a document has been produced that backs plans to create one regional ambulance service and that it is favoured by the Strategic Health Authority, although no decision has been taken.

The West Midlands could be covered by just one service which would incorporate the four existing trusts currently covering the area.
