Crisp was awaiting sentencing for theft |
A man who was in prison awaiting sentence for theft has been found hanged in his shared cell. The Prison Service said 19-year-old Lee Crisp was found at Brinsford Young Offenders' Institute in Staffordshire on Saturday night.
Staff at the institute, which is near Wolverhampton, tried to resuscitate the teenager but he died before the emergency services arrived.
The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman is to hold an investigation.
A Prison Service spokeswoman said Crisp had been awaiting sentence following his conviction for theft at a Birmingham court.
She said: "Every death in custody is a tragedy and the Prison Service offers its sympathies to the family and friends of Lee Crisp."
