Phone crackdown nets 800 drivers
More than 800 Staffordshire motorists have been fined in the past year for driving while using mobile phones.

The police have launched a crackdown on drivers who ignore the law and have been issuing 30 on-the-spot fines.

In three cases motorists were caught using mobile phones while supervising learner-drivers, the police say.

Inspector Paul Andrews, from the central motorway police unit, said: "It beggars belief that drivers should still behave in that way."

The crackdown comes as legislation is promised to impose penalty points motorists caught using handheld mobile phones while driving.
