Crackdown on mobile phone thefts
People are being warned not to use their mobile phones on the street after a rise in the number of thefts.

In the 12 months up until March, almost 200 people in Staffordshire had their phones stolen in street robberies.

The thefts happened as they were using them or after the phones were put away into a bag.

Staffordshire Police say they are committed to investigating phone thefts but people should help themselves by not using them in public.

Officers are recommending owners should put their house number and postcode on the handsets with an ultraviolet pen, and make a note of the phone's international mobile equipment identity number.
