Security guards are being drafted in at a GP practice in Stoke-on-Trent, to help protect staff from violent patients. The Millrise Medical Practice in Milton has also been fitted with panic alarms.
Doctors working at surgeries in other parts of the city can refer violent patients to the newly-equipped centre.
North Stoke Primary Care Trust wants to stop attacks on surgery staff in line with the government's zero tolerance approach to violent patients.
Potentially violent patients will be treated outside of regular surgery times so they do not come into contact with other patients.
