Car park music to fight crime
Classical music is being piped into a Stoke-on-Trent car park in the hope it will deter rough sleepers and create a better atmosphere.

The trial measure is being introduced at the John Street multi-storey car park in Hanley.

Its main purpose is to encourage rough sleepers to move on, as research has shown that constant music can help prevent anti-social behaviour.

The council said it has had problems with rough sleepers in covered parking areas and wants people to feel safe using car parks.

It said that drivers using the car park will not be affected by the music because of the short time they will be in there.

If the trial is successful, it could be extended across the city.
