A decision about the future of Stone's library should be made next month. Two options are under consideration - building an extension to the current building in Market Square, or rehousing the library at the back of the town council offices in Station Road.
People in Stone voted to keep the library in the Market Square following a five-week consultation exercise at the end of last year.
But councillors appointed an independent panel to review the two possibilities last month.
Gathering evidence
That decision has caused anger among some locals, who are concerned the final decision will be not be made by people from the town.
A group made up of county and town councillors decided that the better option would be to rehouse the library in Station Road.
The panel will spend the next six weeks gathering evidence and visiting both sites before reporting back to the council on 20 June.
The council has said both options have their pros and cons and that a decision should not be rushed.
