Tree-top protesters to be evicted
Trees - generic
There are plans to build 875 homes and a supermarket on the site
Campaigners trying to save an area of woodland in Sussex have lost their fight in the High Court.

The protesters were trying to stop a development at Titnore Woods near Worthing by occupying a raised village they built in the trees.

The landowners successfully applied for possession of the woods in July.

The court has now rejected the protesters' claim that the case had been rushed. The owners can now use court bailiffs to evict the protesters.

Even if the protesters leave, the fight against the development which would include 875 homes and a Tesco store could continue.

A local residents association has said it may apply for a judicial review should the local council grant planning permission for a huge building project.

The Protect Our Woodland group moved into the wood at the end of May and have been fighting to save 210 trees on the site in Durrington known as the Lake Rue.
