Towns are sat-nav theft hotspots
Sat-nav unit in car
Police say 70% of sat-nav thefts in Surrey are in the two towns
Two Surrey towns have been named as hotspots for thefts of satellite navigation systems from cars.

Police say more than 70% of the thefts take place in Staines and Stanwell and the peak time for the crimes is in the early hours on Saturdays.

Supt Graham Hill said Surrey was "one of the safest places in the country" but crime could still be reduced.

He wants drivers not to leave equipment in the car, wipe away suction marks, mark their property and lock vehicles.

He said people should also keep a note of the make, model and serial number of their systems.
