Charity benefits from Big Brother
Samuel Preston
Samuel Preston said he admired the work of the homeless charity
A charity for the homeless is to benefit from the money raised by a contestant on Celebrity Big Brother.

Ordinary Boys singer Samuel Preston, 23, is giving his earnings to the St Patrick's Night Shelter, which is based in his home city of Hove, in Sussex.

The charity runs several projects for the homeless across the city, but has just lost its 200,000 a year grant for its emergency overnight shelter.

Shelter founder, Father Alan Sharpe, said he was "bowled over" by the news.

The shelter is run by the Church of England St Patrick's Trust charity.

The night shelter, which provides 22 emergency beds, is due to lose its council funding at the end of this month.

Brighton and Hove City Council said it preferred to spend its money supporting longer term solutions for the homeless, rather than just overnight stays.

Preston said he chose the charity to benefit from his share of the money raised through public voting because it was local to where he lived and he had always admired its work.
