Residents will be offered to advice on keeping burglars at bay |
Five roads in Hastings and St Leonards are the focus of a crime prevention scheme this summer after Sussex Police found they had high burglary rates. A police CCTV van will visit the areas and officers will give advice on the use of property-marking equipment.
Det Insp Tim Nunn said burglary had been reduced and was down by 39%.
"This is no consolation if you are one of the unlucky people whose home is burgled. Therefore, we are progressing initiatives to reduce it even further."
Information needed
He added: "It should make the community in that area feel involved in reducing crime and more importantly, the fear of crime."
Mr Nunn said officers would also be highlighting the importance of information being passed to the police.
"The police need to hear about the person you saw in unusual circumstances in an alleyway; the man who offered you what may be stolen property; the conversation you overheard in the cafe about vacant premises."
In the next three months, the roadshow will be in the Kenilworth Road, Nelson Road, Priory Road, Hughenden Road and Cloudesley Road areas.
