Meeting over controversial hotel
The De La Warr Pavilion
Opponents say views of the De La Warr Pavilion will be spoilt
Plans for a large hotel complex on a Sussex seafront will come under discussion on Thursday.

The 60-bed hotel planned for Bexhill has been opposed by some local residents who say it would overshadow the nearby De La Warr Pavilion.

The scheme has also been opposed by some businesses who think building on car park spaces next to the De La Warr would affect their trade.

It will be discussed at a meeting of the Hastings and Bexhill Task Force.

'Town green'

The hotel plans, which also include office space and 12 apartments, have been put forward as part of a multi-million pound regeneration of the Bexhill and Hastings area.

Rother District Council is working alongside developer Seascape on the scheme.

As well as anger at the loss of parking spaces, concern has been voiced by local residents at the prospect of the town's seafront putting green being built on.

An attempt has been made by the group Save Our Seafront to register the putting green as a "town green", under the Commons Registration Act.

A hotel used to stand on the site - the Metropole Hotel - was demolished in 1955 after being damaged by bombing in World War II.
