Cartoon nurse rivals Bob and Sam
Nurse Fi
Nurse Fi was created by Staff Nurse Fiona Sneddon
A nurse from Surrey has created a cartoon character who could rival Bob the Builder or Fireman Sam.

Fiona Sneddon, a staff nurse at Frimley Park Hospital, Surrey won a magazine contest to find a character to tempt children into nursing as a career.

Staff Nurse Fi and her friends Whizzy the Wheelchair and Harry the Hoist could be developed into a TV show.

"It is a simple idea and it has a lot of potential," said competition judge Jocelyn Stevenson.

Ms Stevenson, who has worked on Bob the Builder and Thomas the Tank Engine, said it took three years before a new character hit the TV screens but ideas from the competition could be taken further.

'Good picture'

Ms Sneddon said "I would be delighted if there was a nurse cartoon character for children.

"We need to get people interested in the profession at a young age."

The competition was organised by Nursing Standard.

Editor Jean Gray said: "Recruitment to the building trade went up thanks to Bob and we believe that a good cartoon character could entertain youngsters as well as giving them a good picture of what a career in nursing is about."
