Measures needed for 'danger' road
Residents say it is only a matter of time before someone is killed
Residents of an East Sussex town have warned someone will be killed unless speed restrictions are put in place on a busy main road.

They want more signs and a speed camera along Bexhill Road in St Leonards to cut down on the number of accidents.

Resident Nick Blythe said: "You go to bed wondering if you'll be the next to have a car crash in your front garden."

The Sussex Safety Partnership said to install a camera a road must have eight crashes with four serious injuries.

Young children

Those accidents must also take place over a three year period on the same stretch of road.

Because no-one has yet been seriously injured the Bexhill Road through the town does not qualify the safety partnership, a county council agency, said.

But Mr Blythe said "several" vehicles had already gone in to people's walls and cars.

"Obviously with young children it is very difficult to let them out," he said.

Sussex Police said: "Statistics reflect that there are not a huge number of injury accidents but there are a degree of damage accidents and that's why the county has put in a slow down sign.

"Our priority has to be areas where people are getting hurt."
