The unit needs German Shepherd dogs between 12 and 18 months old to replace those that are due to retire this year.

Police dogs usually come from breeders, rescue centres and members of the public who donate their dogs for various reasons.

Sussex Police said the dogs are usually used to search houses and other buildings as well as woodland. They are also used in public order situations.
