Plant protesters' fight continues
North Quay, Newhaven
No planning application has yet been submitted for the incinerator
People campaigning against plans for an incinerator in East Sussex are to meet on Tuesday to discuss how to continue their opposition.

A site in Newhaven has been earmarked for the plant as part of a programme to deal with waste in East Sussex.

Hundreds of residents are against the scheme because they say it would affect the environment and people's health.

Telscombe Town Council is holding a meeting to air views, before Brighton Council debates the issue on Thursday.

A public inquiry was held into East Sussex County Council's waste local plan in May 2004.

As a result, a government planning inspector said the North Quay site in Newhaven would be suitable for an incinerator.

Another potential site, at Mountfield near Battle, was rejected by the inspectors.

No planning application has been lodged for the plant.
