The volunteers help to save lives in villages and rural areas

There are now 60 "first responders" in communities across East and West Sussex who are trained to use defibrillators, which help to restart a heart.

It is helping to save lives in rural areas, away from ambulance stations.

Volunteer Dave Fletcher, who recently helped save a man's life in Henfield, said the scheme helps to avoid delays.

"The problem with a lot of villages in Sussex, and particularly in Henfield, is that they are so far from the nearest ambulance station," he said.

"If you get a serious emergency out here, there is a substantial delay and lives can be lost," he said.
