Drivers in Hastings are being warned of roadside checks |
Eleven motorists have been arrested in five days as part of a December drink drive crackdown in the East Downs division of Sussex Police. The division covers the Eastbourne, Polegate and Hailsham areas, and police are carrying out spot checks each day.
People are being warned the only safe option is not to drink any alcohol at all if they plan to drive, in the county-wide anti drink-drive campaign.
Similar spot checks on drivers are also being carried out in other divisions.
In Hastings, police are also setting up three checkpoints in various locations every day to try to reduce "the number of people prepared to risk lives".

Supt Nick Wilkinson said: "There is no failsafe guide as to how to stay under the legal drink drive limit, or how much you can drink and still drive safely.
"That's why we are urging people to not drink at all if they have a vehicle with them.
"It's not just that lunchtime or evening that you may be affected - many people are caught drink driving the following morning."
He said the national trend showed young people were most likely to drink and drive.
At the end of December, the police will assess the ages and genders of those who failed the breath tests.
