Books being moved to new library
Plans for the Jubilee Library from Brighton and Hove City Council
The new library is due to open on World Book Day, 3 March
Work is beginning to install about 125,000 new books in what will be Brighton's new main library.

The 14m Jubilee Library in the city is due to open on 3 March, World Book Day.

The city's temporary central library has closed to free up staff for the task of transferring books, furniture and computers to the new building.

The new library in Jubilee Street will be part of a major development also including a new square, hotel, homes, shops and leisure buildings.

'Bear with us'

It is being billed as one of the most high-tech public libraries in the UK, with books which are microchipped, allowing borrowers to book them out themselves.

There will also be an area for people to play computer games or watch DVDs and a bookshop.

Deputy council leader Sue John said: "We have to ask library users to bear with us.

"There will be such a huge amount of resources available at the library that inevitably it will take some time to stock and to fit out.

"But we're absolutely sure it will be worth it to create our best-ever library in one of the most eco-friendly buildings in the UK."
