A Sussex Police team have been awarded a prestigious �5,000 prize for their work with Brighton's gay community. Sgt Mark Andrews and community liaison officer Lisa Timerick won the Police Review award for diversity in action.
They plan to use the award for a study trip to San Francisco, which has a large lesbian and gay community.
"I am thrilled that Sgt Andrews and Lisa Timerick have been recognised for the huge amount of work they have done," said Chief Supt Paul Curtis.
"It reflects the renewed trust between the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the police," said the Brighton and Hove divisional commander.
Sgt Andrews and Ms Timerick plan to research how police in San Francisco tackle homophobic crime and bring home new ideas to be used in Brighton.
