Wedding planners will be on hand to give advice about the big day |
Same sex couples planning to tie the knot are being encouraged to attend the UK's first Pink Wedding Fair on Sunday. The event at the Metropole Hotel in Brighton will give couples the chance to check out what is on offer from florists, hotels and caterers.
Four couples will be holding their partnership ceremonies at the fair.
Brighton and Hove City Council recently launched a pink wedding waiting list for gay and lesbian couples ahead of the new Civil Partnership Bill.
The Bill, unveiled in March, will give legal rights to couples who register their partnership at a civil ceremony. The council aims to become the UK's flagship city for gay partners who want to tie the knot.
Sue John, deputy leader, said Brighton was the UK's "leading gay city, and the most popular place in the country for same sex couples to get hitched".
"The response to our partnership ceremonies has been phenomenal and when we opened the pink wedding waiting list in July we had people queuing round the block.
"We are the only city in the country to offer the waiting list and the initiative recently won us praise in Parliament," she said.
Gino Meriano, founder of Pink Weddings, said the wedding fair was a "natural step forward" in raising awareness and bringing people together with a genuine interest in same sex couples.
"The show will be a great opportunity to meet the people behind the scenes, find out what is available before and after the government's Civil Partnership legislation is passed and at the same time have some fun."
