Plastics recycling plan on hold
Plastic bottles for recycling
470 tons of plastic bottles are thrown away each year in the area
Financial concerns have forced a council in East Sussex to put some of its recycling plans on hold.

The residents of Willingdon have been taking part in a trial where plastic bottles have been picked up as part of a kerbside recycling initiative.

However, proposals to extend the scheme across the area covered by Wealdon District Council will not now go ahead until its finances have been examined.

The plastics scheme would cost 29,000 a year when up and running.

Around 470 tons of plastic bottles are thrown away each year in the Wealdon district and there are eight bottle banks for them across the area.

A recent cabinet meeting decided that the Willingdon scheme should continue, but plans to extend the kerbside initiative were put on hold until it is known if it can be afforded.
