Campaigners want crop-spraying banned near residential areas

Georgina Downs, 30, from Chichester, wants a ban on spraying near homes.

The former singer claims to have suffered years of ill health caused by chemicals sprayed near where she lives.

The call comes as ministers are due to reveal results of a consultation about farm pesticides and the demands for no spray zones near residential areas.

Ms Downs has also called for the public to be told when chemicals are sprayed near their homes.

She said: "My family and I have been exposed to chemicals for 20 years through crop-spraying.

"I have suffered from a swollen throat, blisters on my skin and in my mouth and in 1991 I had immune system problems and was in hospital for a month.

"Since I bgean my campiagn I have had loads of inquiries from the public and people who have suffered like me."

Sandra Bell, from Friends of the Earth, said: "After a year of consultation and consideration we now want to see a clear commitment from the govenrment to given people the right to know what is being sprayed on land near to their homes and schools and to introduce measures to reduce their exposure."
