City park suffering from traffic
Council leaders are looking at plans to help protect an 18th Century park from traffic.

Stanmer Park in Brighton is suffering from problems caused by motorists and rubbish dumping.

Among the proposals under consideration are car parking charges and a shuttle bus service.

A spokesman for Brighton and Hove City Council said that more than 300 cars can be found parked on grassland at weekends.

The park was landscaped and designed in the early 18th Century by French architect Nicholas Dubois and later developed by Nathaniel Richmond, an associate of the famous Capability Brown.
