Car explosion caused by firework
An explosion which damaged a car in Surrey was caused by an industrial sized firework, say police.

Part of Racecourse Road, in Lingfield, was closed off overnight on Sunday and for most of Monday after officers were called to Stanhope Gardens.

They arrived after the car's owner reported hearing a bang and found the bonnet damaged - the Vauxhall Cavalier was parked on the driveway of his home.

Firefighters found parts of the device which were sent for forensic analysis.

Army bomb disposal experts were also called in to examine the area, while police carried out a fingertip search.

Police say they have no clear idea of the motive for the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Caterham Police Station.
