Apology over broken arm mistake
David Miller
David Miller now has his arm in plaster
A hospital apologised on Monday for not spotting a three-year-old's broken arm.

Stacey Miller took her son David to the children's hospital, Brighton, where he had concussion tests and was sent home after an accident at the city's marina.

Out-of-hours doctors then failed to spot the break - it went untreated for two days until a GP ordered an x-ray.

Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust said fractures are hard to spot in children and x-rays are only given with clear signs of a break.

'No faith'

A statement issued by the NHS Trust said: "It is not feasible, or even desirable, to x-ray every child who has a fall and only those showing clear signs that a fracture may be present are x-rayed."

Mrs Miller said: "I have no faith in doctors anymore.

"If he does get seriously ill, I will take him out of Brighton.

"I want David to have at least a written apology and then he can take it from there.

"If he wants to accept it, he will and if he doesn't, he will tell them, because he's that kind of child."
