CCTV to watch New Year revellers
Posters of the Smile campaign
Cameras will be watching party-goers in pubs, clubs and on buses

Revellers seeing in the New Year in Sussex will find their celebrations are being filmed on CCTV.

Cameras in villages, towns and cities in the county will be keeping an eye on festivities as part of the Smile You're on CCTV campaign.

The campaign was initially launched by police in Brighton and Hove and has been rolled out across other parts of Sussex for the celebrations on Wednesday night.

A fleet of five new mobile CCTV vans belonging to Sussex Police will also be used to zoom in on busy streets filled with party-goers.

'Watching over you'

People will be filmed on buses and in clubs with the move intended to signal to everyone that they are being watched by the police.

Assistant Chief Constable Geoff Williams, from Sussex Police, said: "We want you to have a good New Year's Eve.

"CCTV, whether is on the street, in clubs, pubs, restaurants or taxis is there to keep you safe.

"The Smile campaign is intended to do two things, first deter the minority of people who want to cause trouble and second to remind the vast majority of law abiding public we are watching over you to keep you safe."
