Sarah Payne's mother gives birth
The couple announced they were splitting up in September
The mother of murdered schoolgirl Sarah Payne has given birth to a girl.

The baby was delivered at home at the weekend and weighed 7lb 14oz.

Mother Sara Payne, 34, of Hersham, Surrey, is said to be doing well after the birth.

Grandmother Lesley Payne, said the baby had not yet been given a name and was healthy.

'Over the moon'

The baby's father, Michael Payne, 34, is thought to have been present at the birth.

This is despite the couple announcing in September they had split up.

Lesley Payne said: "He's obviously over the moon. We haven't seen the baby so far - we're going to visit tomorrow when she's had a bit of a chance to settle down."

Sarah Payne was eight when she was abducted while playing in West Sussex in July 2000 and was then murdered.

Roy Whiting, 42, was convicted of kidnapping and killing her in 2001 and jailed for life.

Sara and Michael Payne blamed the aftermath of coping with the trauma of the murder for their decision to split.

The couple also have two sons, Lee, 16, and Luke, 14, as well as an eight-year-old daughter, Charlotte.
