Action to stop nuisance bikers
Bikers
Young people will be taught how to use a motorbike responsibly
Police in East Sussex are taking action to stop young people causing a nuisance by illegally using motorbikes off-road.

Teenagers will be shown how to use a motorcycle responsibly during a week-long course in Peacehaven.

The Responsible Bikers Project will run during the half-term week for young people aged 14 to 19 from across the Lewes district.

It has been set up by the Lewes Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, which brings together Sussex Police and other agencies including Lewes District Council and East Sussex County Council.

'Serious danger'

In Kent, police have already started tackling the problem by issuing warnings to bikers and confiscating machines.

Elizabeth Lee, Lewes District Council's cabinet member for community affairs, said: "Illegal and anti-social use of motorbikes off-road has been an increasing problem in the area.

"It not only disrupts the local community, it poses a serious danger to the young people who are involved.

"It's designed to show young people how, in learning to control a motorbike properly, they can also take control of their own lives."
