Rival seafront plans presented
The RH Partnership design
The hotel scheme includes a luxury spa complex and winter gardens
Rival plans for Olympic size ice-rinks and a 150-room hotel for a prime seafront spot in Brighton are to be presented to councillors.

The multi-million pound proposals are for the two-acre Black Rock site next to the marina.

The project forms part of the West Pier, King Alfred and Brighton Centre redevelopment.

International tycoon Sir Rocco Forte is behind the RH Partnership hotel scheme which also includes a luxury spa complex and winter gardens.

Brighton International Arena has proposed the rival option to offer a multi-purpose venue including the ice rinks.

Both schemes follow a development brief prepared for the site in 2001 which features leisure related ideas proposed by residents.

The final decision on the two schemes will be taken in October

They will be presented to Brighton and Hove city councillors on Thursday.

Ken Bodfish, leader of the council, said the final decision would be taken in October.

He said: "At the moment there is still room for discussion.

"This is such an important opportunity we want to make sure we get it right.

"It is vital the final scheme takes account of location with regard to transport to and from and the effect on the surrounding area.

"Proposing a development that is both financially and environmentally sustainable is a challenge that must be met."
