Officers have carried out almost 3,000 patrols in a week |
Almost 200 people have been arrested in a week-long operation to cut violent crime. Sussex Police said Operation Resolve - which targeted public disorder hotspots in Brighton, Eastbourne, Hastings, Worthing and Crawley - had been a great success.
About 3,000 patrols have taken place over the past week, with 184 arrests made for offences connected with anti-social behaviour and violent crime.
Nearly 50 other offences have also been detected as a result, a Sussex Police spokesman said.
Alcohol related
The force made use of high visibility patrols, dog units and specialist intelligence teams.
Officers also teamed up with other agencies, including local authorities, emergency services, Trading Standards officers and licensees.
Assistant Chief Constable Geoff Williams said: "We are pleased with the way the operation has gone and feedback from the public and licensees has been very positive."
He said he was keen to carry on the advances made over the week in reducing assaults in public places, many of which are alcohol related.
The force recorded a 2% drop in violent crime from April to August this year, compared to last.
