The Honda Fireblade would cost 6,000 to replace |
A motorbike crushed into a cube is being displayed in a Surrey car park to warn riders to be sensible.
The Honda Fireblade, which would cost 6,000 to replace, was seized by police after its owner lost control during a stunt and ploughed into onlookers.
Surrey Police and Surrey County Council have taken the step of crushing the bike and displaying it on a plinth at Burford Bridge car park.
The rider of the motorbike has never been traced because he left the scene after the accident and police found the vehicle had not been registered since 2000.
Majority are sensible
No-one was hurt in the incident which happened in August 2002.
Burford Bridge at the foot of Box Hill, better known as Rykas, has been a gathering place for motorcyclists for 80 years.
The so called "season" normally starts around Easter when hundreds of bikers turn up.
Police said the majority of riders are sensible but in recent years some groups have been racing at high speed along the A24 or doing stunts.
Prosecutions will be made by police if people are caught riding irresponsibly.
Council transport manager, Roger Archer-Reeves, said: "We aren't out to stop the bikers from gathering at Rykas.
"We are just trying to prevent someone, perhaps an innocent bystander from being killed or seriously injured by thoughtless behaviour from one of the bikers that are giving the rest a bad name."
