'Super head' resigns
Nick Hunt
Mr Hunt will take up a post in youth justice after the half term break
A head teacher drafted in to save a school in Kent has resigned two-and-a-half terms after he was appointed.

Nick Hunt took charge of the ailing Ramsgate School in September.

His role was to try and lift the school from the bottom of the GCSE league tables and change its failing reputation.

But in the second term of his appointment the school was put into special measures after a critical Ofsted report.

Expansion preparations

It was announced this week Mr Hunt, who earns 70,000, would not be returning to the school after the half term break.

There are plans to turn the school into a 20m city academy and a group of trouble shooters were brought in after the Easter holidays to prepare for the expansion.

As a result of Mr Hunt's departure, Keith Hargrave, the head teacher of Canterbury High School, who is one of the trouble shooters, will also lead Ramsgate School.

Mr Hargrave said: "The difference between this plan and the previous situation is there is a whole team of experienced proven staff going in to improve the management and leadership of Ramsgate School.

"One person on their own would take ages to turn the school around but a team of people who have worked together, who have a proven track record, they have a much better chance of turning Ramsgate School around much more quickly."

Mr Hunt was unavailable for interview on Wednesday when he was approached by BBC South East Today.

Kent County Council confirmed he would be taking up a new post working in youth justice after the half term holiday.
