Safety call after fatal crash
King Offa Way
Stuart Doe died when he came off the road and crashed into a house
Safety barriers and speed cameras should be installed on a road where a driver died when he crashed into a house, it has been recommended.

The Highways Agency (HA) has said the barriers and cameras should be put in along the A259 dual carriageway in Bexhill, East Sussex.

The recommendations come after 25-year-old Stuart Doe was killed when his Vauxhall Astra left the road and ploughed into a house in February.

Two people in the property on King Offa Way were also injured in the incident.

Limited funding

The accident study carried out after the fatal crash recommended that signage and road markings should be improved to help drivers maintain a safe driving speed.

As well as the cameras and barriers the agency said the signage phasing at the junction of London Road should be revised to give drivers more time to clear the junction.

A spokeswoman for the agency said: "The HA is always saddened by the loss of life on its network and will ensure these recommendations are taken forward as quickly as possible.

"However, limited funding means that each accident site has to be prioritised to achieve maximum possible savings in casualties within allocated annual funds."
