Heavy snow showers have led to more than 40 school closures across South Yorkshire as forecasters predict the worst snow for 18 years. The Highways Agency said the A57 Snake Pass was closed in both directions from Ladybower to Glossop. Sheffield City Council said gritters had been treating roads overnight. The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for Yorkshire and the Humber with more snow expected during the day and overnight. At lunchtime on Monday, the total number of schools closed across the county was said to be 42.
