Services at Sheffield Children's Hospital were rated "excellent"

Sheffield Children's Foundation Trust and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Trust have been rated as "excellent" in both services and use of resources.

Five trusts got "excellent" marks in one of the categories.

But the Sheffield Primary Care Trust (PCT) and the newly-organised Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) were rated as "weak" in both areas.

Ian Walton, acting chief executive of YAS, said: "We are absolutely committed to improving in the areas where we are weak and developing further the areas in which we have shown good practice to be in place."

Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust was rated "good" for quality of services and "excellent" for use of resources, as was the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust.

The Doncaster and South Humber Healthcare NHS trust was rated as "excellent" for quality of services and "good" for use of resources, as was the Sheffield Care Trust.
