Police plea over happy-slap film
Charlotte's mother Judith Chamberlain
Judith Chamberlain said her daughter is now reluctant to go out
A 14-year-old girl has had her nose broken in a "happy slap"-style attack filmed on a mobile phone in Rotherham.

Charlotte Wragg was with a friend when she was approached by a group of girls and attacked by the Jet service station on Worksop Road on Tuesday night.

Police believe footage of the incident has been circulated in the area and urged anyone who receives it to keep it on their phone and contact them.

A 14-year-old has been arrested and bailed in connection with the incident.

No reason

Miss Wragg, who also suffered two black eyes in the attack, said she had not know her ordeal was being filmed.

"I didn't know until my friend told me that she had watched it all," she said.

"I just don't know why they did it because they didn't seem to have any real reason. I didn't even know who they were."

Her mother, Judith Chamberlain, said her daughter had been robbed of her confidence and was reluctant to leave their home.

"I'd really like to know why they did it," she said. "What were they getting out of it? What were they hoping to achieve?

'Foolish practice'

"It's a horrible, horrible thing to do."

Supt Steve Parry said Miss Wragg had suffered a particularly sustained attack.

"I wish to reiterate here what I have said previously about 'happy slapping' type incidents," he said. "They are quite simply assaults and will be dealt with as such.

"It is a foolish practice that has, in this case, resulted in a young girl sustaining nasty injuries.

"I hope anyone thinking of participating in this stupid practice will now reconsider."
